Dream pop, a genre which generally consists of basic yet effective drumbeats, minimalist synth ridden melodies and airy vocals. A few artists previously thrown into the ever growing pit of indie music have been lucky escaping into a genre called dream pop.
This includes George Lewis Jr. An American musician who occupies the stage name of Twin Shadow, in 2010 he released his debut album ‘Forget’. A beautifully crafted album produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, some aspects of the album are similar to the mellow tones of Wilco, however aspects of dance music are also incorporated into the album. Overall the music is varied yet highly satisfying making for an enthralling listening experience. Definitely worth checking out especially as he’ll be playing some of the smaller stages at this summers festivals.
A second dream pop pioneer is Wild Nothing, the solo project of Jack Tatum. Like Twin Shadow he released his debut, Gemini, in 2010, an unimposing album that is thoroughly chilled out, so in this busy life everyone seems to lead nowadays take some well earned time out to listen to Wild Nothing.
As the newly formed dream pop genre is distinguishing itself from the landfill indie music that is adding to an already saturated genre that doesn’t really mean anything anymore, keep an eye out for more acts releasing music into the dream pop genre.
